Fan or Fanatic? Which are you?
July 12, 2009 | 53 Comments
Fan or fanatic? Do you know the difference? I am continually astonished that many people don’t. It seems that for many, they are unable to draw a line between being a fan and being a fanatic.
A fan is someone who likes football. They watch it, follow it, go to some games, and talk about it with their friends. A fanatic is a person who rounds up six of his buddies, paints their big ol’ beer bellies with the letters C-O-W-B-O-Y-S (or any other team) and then takes their shirts off at the game even when the temperature is freezing. They somehow think that their fat, hairy, letter-painted bellies are going to cause their team to win. No one really likes these guys and we all think they are pitiful jokes, however, they are the ones who get their painted bellies on TV. Just like many of the fanatics on some of the evening cable news programs: I know Glenn Beck and Keith Olberman have painted bellies under their suits!
Pro-life/pro-choice. A fan of pro-life votes their conscience on that issue or go to a church that supports their belief or may send money to support politicians who believe the way they do. A fanatic kills an abortion doctor. See how the difference betweens a fan and a fanatic can turn ugly?
It’s Easier To Be Stupid
June 27, 2009 | 38 Comments
That’s right. It’s easier to be stupid than it is be smart.
It is easier to listen to the political pundits and television news anchors and trust their words completely than it is to study, read, and search to discover the truth about a political issue or to actually read one of the bills or proposals you are so vehemently for or against.
It is easier to believe Rush or O’Reilly or Hannity or Olberman or Rachel or Beck or even Larry Winget than it is to actually do a little fact checking of your very own. It’s work to find the truth out about any issue, so it’s easier to just accept what you hear as fact.
It is easier to listen to the preachers and believe every word they say from their pulpit than it is to read the book yourself, or maybe lots of books and search for your own insight and develop your beliefs based on your own experiences.
It’s easier to just toe the party line because you are registered Democrat or Republican than it is to ask whether the party line makes sense or not.

This week facebook allowed you to select a user name so people could find you more easily. You could select one name and it could not be transferred, edited or changed, so you were advised to select carefully! At 12:01 Saturday morning when it became legal to select your user name, people went online and grabbed their name, usually their real name, in order to have their own dedicated URL such as www.facebook.com/larrywinget.
I certainly had every intention of picking my username when I woke up that Saturday morning but I didn’t plan on staying up and camping out online to grab it at 12:01. So when I woke up that morning and went to get my user name, I couldn’t because a dirtbag, cheeseball named Eric Winager had already made larrywinget HIS username. Why would he do that? I couldn’t figure out how using my name would benefit anyone other than me. What good would my name as a URL do someone who wasn’t named Larry Winget? It turns out I am not nearly as devious as some people.
I contacted Eric Winager, who proudly claimed to be an Oklahoma Alum and who already had about 350 facebook friends of his own and asked why he would grab my name for his user name. His response to me was this:
The Five Things To Do When The Money Runs Out
June 8, 2009 | 40 Comments
I get a lot of email from people who have either lost their jobs or are losing their jobs. Their 401K is gone, their savings is zeroed out or maybe their unemployment checks have run out. This is becoming a common situation for a good part of our society as unemployment rises. Many people are facing a lack of employment and a lack of funds. Yet their family still needs to eat and the bills still have to be paid. Does this apply to you? I hope it doesn’t. But I am betting that you know someone who is in this situation.
It’s too late to tell people they should have saved more (six months cash set aside to cover your monthly expenses.) It’s too late to say you should have worked harder or smarter or better so you wouldn’t have been the one who got laid off (not always the case but it is often the case.) It’s too late to say that you shouldn’t have spent so much money on stupid stuff – that you shouldn’t have wasted money on things that gave only very temporary satisfaction – that you shouldn’t have gone out to eat 4 nights a week or bought that car you couldn’t really afford or that house you knew you couldn’t make the payments on if anything happened to your income. It’s too late to beat people up about any of that stuff at this point, so I don’t and I won’t.
Instead, it’s time to give folks some ideas they can use when it’s crunch time, they are scrambling and when survival is the main concern. So here you go:
LeBron James - Octomom - GM. WARNING Parental Advisory!
June 1, 2009 | 43 Comments
I have a few issues with what has happened in the news today. These issues can be used to teach your children valuable lessons. I apologize to my more sensitive readers as this is rougher language than I normally use in my rants. If you are offended, sorry. But seriously, grow up!
1. LeBron James refuses to shake hands after getting beat. He claims, “I am a competitor. I am not a poor sport. I like to win. That’s just who I am.” Sorry Asshole, let me help you with who you really are: you are a poor sport. You shake hands after a game. Period. Win or lose. Here is the opportunity for all parents to use this example of poor sportsmanship to teach your children a valuable lesson. Explain to your kids that they are not supposed to act like this. Teach that this is not acceptable behavior by anyone. Knock this guy off every pedestal he has been placed on and don’t let him pretend to be a role model for your kids. He is an ungrateful jerk. We ALL like to win. We all HATE to lose. But losing is a part of life and you better learn to do it graciously. Teach your kids to lose graciously and win the same way.
