A Great Time To Be Looking For A Job

January 27, 2009 | 21 Comments

I have been saying for a while that there is a lot of good that can come out of all this bad.  It’s all in how you look at it and choose to respond to it.  Credit is going to be harder to get.  Bad thing?  Some people think so.  I see it as a good thing.  Credit will be loaned only to people who actually have the ability to repay the loan.  Thus making our banking system more stable.  Companies are going out of business.  Bad thing?  Sometimes.  But many times these companies are going out of business because they were surviving only because times were prosperous and not because they were any good at supplying a high quality product or service.  So I say, “Bye-bye” to them and good riddance.

I get a lot of emails about people losing their jobs and being out of work.  I know how hard this can be on families and the financial impact it has on people.  I am not a calloused jerk when it comes to the hardships caused by this recession.  But losing your job might be just the opportunity you need.  Maybe you need to look at it from a different perspective.

This week I received an article, written by George Bullock, a friend of mine from my old hometown, Tulsa, Oklahoma.  It sums up my feelings about the job market better than anything I have seen to date.  And since it comes from a person who is looking for a job, I think it carries more weight than my words would on the subject.  I hope it causes you to think.

A Simple Guy With Simple Ideas

January 20, 2009 | 21 Comments

It’s true. I really am a simple guy. I believe that everything it takes to become more successful either personally or professionally is simple. Idiot simple, in fact.

Want to lose weight? Eat less – exercise more. Simple.

Want more money? Earn more – spend less. Simple.

Want to be more successful? Stop doing the things that keep you from being successful. Again, simple.

I could take that basic idea and attack every single area of your personal or business life. There is nothing complicated about success. We make it complicated. We even want it to be complicated. The reason we want it to be complicated is that believing success is complicated gives us a reason not to be successful – after all, it’s complicated!!!!! Stop believing all that complicated crap and come over to my side where life is much simpler. Come over to my way of thinking where money is easy, success is simple and where every problem you have can be solved with simple solutions.

Larry Winget Can Fix America!

January 11, 2009 | 10 Comments

Big claim?  Yeah, I know it is, but I make that claim with complete confidence.  I can fix America.  Of course, it would take the cooperation of every American, but it could still be done.   It only takes us doing three things.

1.  Every American must get their house in order financially.  What that means:  Spend less money than you earn.  Pay your obligations.  Live within your means.  Prioritize what is important in terms of money, ie.  saving, investing, and buying meaningful things that move you closer to your overall goals as an individual and as a family.

2.  Raise your kids.  Yeah, actually raise your kids . . . parent them, not just be in the house with them.  Teach your kids values and principles.  Teach them to live lives based in integrity where when they give their word, it means something.  Teach them to eat healthily, be responsible with money, treat others fairly, and help those less fortunate.  Teach them how to do things like cook, make their bed, screw in a light bulb, carry out the trash, and other basics.  Teach them to be responsible, productive, contributing adults while they are still children.

3.  Do your job.  Remember why you were hired?  Remember that thing you are paid to do?  Do it.  Do it with all you’ve got.  Get to work on time and work the entire time you are there.  Never make your employer wonder is they are getting the best from you.  Never have a customer question whether you care about them or not.  Never have a co-worker be able to call you a slacker.  Be the person who does their job to the best of their abilities every minute of every day – just like you were hired to do.

That’s it.  Seriously, that is all it would take to fix America.  Right now, we are a country full of people who have been fiscally irresponsible and that is the reason we are in the mess we are in today.  Some of you will argue that point and you have every right to be wrong.  We are in this mess because individuals have been fiscally irresponsible.  Those individuals then created companies who were then fiscally irresponsible.  And we are not parenting our children.  We are raising stupid, irresponsible kids who can’t read, think Paris Hilton is god and have few morals or values.  If you want the stats and the proof, I could give it here but I will make you wait for my next book, Stop Raising Stupid Kids.  The fault however, does not lie with the kids, it lies squarely in the laps of their parents.  Lastly, people barely do their jobs.  You know this is true.  Walk in any business in America and the evidence will be clear.  Just look at how your coworkers spend their day.  Then look in the mirror and admit that you aren’t giving it your best either.  You were hired to give it your best and you agreed to, but you aren’t doing it.

Want to make this a better country?  Of course you do.  We all do.  If you really mean it, then go home and do these three things.  It will take some time, but it can be done.  Do your part by beginning today.

Are People Idiots?

January 1, 2009 | 9 Comments

Are people really idiots?  Obviously I believe so based on the title of my new book, People Are Idiots And I Can Prove It.

What else could I believe based on the evidence provided?

Parents don’t talk to their kids or discipline their kids; give them everything they want and then wonder why their kids are a mess.

People barely do any work while they are on the job, then can’t figure out why they got laid off when times got tough for their employer.

People spend more money than they earn then seem to be surprised that the people who loaned them the money actually want to be repaid.

The majority of people can’t read and don’t read.

Our country is experiencing an obesity epidemic because of our eating habits.

25% of people cheat on their taxes yet expect honesty from their elected officials.

I could go on and on with points just like this but I believe my point is clear.  The real issues are: Why are people idiots? and:  What can be done to stop being an idiot?  When we deal with the cause of a problem and offer some solutions, then we can begin to fix individual problems as well as the problems of society.

That is what my new book is all about.  If I just pointed out all the ways that people are idiots, we would all have a good laugh but it wouldn’t move anyone closer to a solution.  I like solutions.  Simple, “Stop doing this and start doing that” type solutions.  People Are Idiots And I Can Prove It does this because I deal in detail with the various ways each of us sabotage our lives and how we can reverse the cycle to achieve more.

If you ever look in the mirror like I do and wonder why things aren’t going better, maybe you will pick up some good idea from what I have written.  At least, that is my goal.  I am not promising you that this book will fix everything in your life and that you will suddenly be rich, healthy, famous or good-looking.   But I honestly think there are some good ideas in the book that just might help you out.

I honestly wish the best for all of you in 2009.  I have a lot of cool things happening including another book that you will hear about soon!  And if you haven’t joined me on Facebook as a friend on my page or the Unofficial Larry Winget Fan Club, be sure to do so to get information fast!

Thanks, Larry
