Personal Contact With Me and then some…..
June 19, 2007 | 9 Comments
I really appreciate the many emails I get about the television show and my books, CDs, DVDs and speeches. I enjoy reading them and enjoy responding when I can.
Please understand that I can’t respond to every single email. There are simply too many and it grows daily. While I would love to work with everyone who contacts me, I can’t. So please don’t get your feelings hurt when I tell you that I can’t call your sister-in-law to tell her to stay away from the mall - it ain’t happening!! I get hundreds of requests per month from people with money problems, personal problems, family problems and more. I am flattered that you want to confide in me and want my input in your life. But there is no way I can make personal contact with all who email, the volume is too high. So if you get a form letter response, understand. It is isn’t that we don’t appreciate your question or that we don’t care. Everyone gets the form letter. Then your emails go to me and I respond to some based on my time and the situation. I personally respond as often as I can but only via email — I am not going to pick up the phone and call you. There are days I feel lucky when I squeeze out the time to call my boys and my mama! And when I send you an email, chances are, it will be a short one.
I am not discouraging contact in any way. I enjoy it and want to encourage it. That’s why I put up the blog so everyone could benefit from the comments and questions that my readers post. I also respond individually on the blog often with answers that I feel many could use. So keep posting and keep writing but if you are waiting for a call from Larry, it will be a long long wait.

Budgeting

I am getting a lot of emails and comments about budgeting. I say it is simple and some of you say it isn’t. Sorry, it is. First, write down how much you make after taxes monthly. Then write down every penny you owe monthly ….I mean ALL of it. If your expenses are higher than your income, you have a problem. So do this. Write down the essentials. Shopping isn’t an essential. Shelter, food and bills. Those are essential. Shelter is your rent or mortgage plus utilities. Food should not run more than $50 per person per week. Bills means any money you have already spent and owe. (Credit cards, student loans, insurance, etc.) Subtract the amounts that cover those 3 areas from your income and if there is any money left over, you get to decide how to spend it. I suggest you save a good portion of it in case of emergency…..trust me, there will be emergencies. And then decide what you want to spend your money on.
This is a short version. No time for the full explanation on budgeting today. But know this: it is simple. Don’t let “numbers” scare you away from doing it. Just sit down, suck it up and figure it out. Then stick to it. Don’t spend more than you make. That is my NUMBER ONE thing: spend less than you earn. If you do that, you can get out of debt and more.
For those who want more from me about money, I have a new book which will be coming out in December that covers all of this and more. Keep checking back for an announcement about the book.
Big Spender

You folks seem to have lots to say about the people on Big Spender. I appreciate that and want to say thanks for watching. To update you about the show………you are not going to believe the episodes we have coming up! This season is made up of people who are a total mess. I’m not going to give away the content of the shows but I promise, you ain’t gonna believe what you see! The show is doing well but can always use more viewers so tell your friends to watch. I know Saturday mornings isn’t ideal but there is a chance we might move back to our old evening timeslot so keep watching.
I do want you to know that most of these folks, not all, but most are good people at heart but their priorities are all wrong. That is always the problem with money….. messed up priorities. Your money will go for the things that matter most to you. Period. If looking cute is the most important thing in your life, then your money will be spent at the mall. if financial security or your kid’s education is most important to you, then that is where your money will go. Check your own money. Go to your checkbook and see what you spend money on. In an instant, you will know what is important to you because your money goes toward it. Follow the money!!!!! Your life is like a crime novel…..the key is to solving your problems is to follow the money!
